Outstanding students, including Sherdon Baugh who won multiple awards, were recognized for stellar academic and co-curricular performances during Excelsior’s annual Graduation and Prize Giving exercise held on Wednesday November 9, 2009.

In a season of lauding brilliance and in continuing to foster an appreciation of excellence, the school awarded students for outstanding performance in a number of disciples. As many as 242 students were given prizes in academics, one in public speaking, one in quiz and four awards went to students for excelling in sports.
And with the Class of 1980’s 30th anniversary looming in 2010, the group’s presence was very evident during the function. The graduating class added a refreshing touch to the proceedings by donating Olympic-style medals which were presented to the outstanding students.
According to Donna Myrie ('80), one of the coordinators of the upcoming Class of 1980 30th anniversary reunion, the gesture was, “In keeping with our legacy of giving, a donation of academic medals engraved with 'Excelsior High School' was made earlier this month. These medals were presented to students in recognition of outstanding academic performance during an awards ceremony on November 11, 2009”.
The school is currently undergoing a rebirth after a dip in standards in recent years. Alumni and other segments of the Excelsior family have joined forces in a determined effort to try to restore the alma mater to the position of prominence which it once enjoyed. |
