Kris-Ann Walters
Kris-Ann Walters, Class 2 Track & Field athlete, yesterday won Gold in the long jump at Boy & Girls Championship at the National Stadium to end Excelsior's decade-long futility at Champs.
Coached by Beijing Olympian Gavin James, an Excelsior past student, Kris-Ann--a Grade Eleven students and prefect at the school-- finally fulfilled the promised that she had shown since last year in copping the coveted medal.

Prior to Kris-Ann's success yesterday, Excelsior last won a Gold in 1997 and had not won a single point at Champs since 1999-2000.
So on the eve of Champs, the modest hope was just for the school to even win a single point as tangible evidence of having competed. Now with Kris-Ann's success, and another athlete, Shenika Reynolds, advancing to the semi-final of the girls 400M, the sights of the school fraternity have been set a wee bit higher!
The school's hopes for even more success rest on other athletes set to compete in the boys' Class 1 100M & 200M & the Boys 800M semis. |
