Excelsior's girls football team won its third successive championship on Friday, March 23, by outclassing Donald Quarrie High 3-0 in the finals of the ISSA Schoolgirls competition.
Board Chair Lilieth Deacon and Principal Beverley Wilson headed a fair sized gathering at the Harbour View Mini Stadium which witnessed a virtuoso
performance by the team whose victory was spurred by a hat trick from national midfielder Kimmia Parker, who scored in the 24th, 67th and 83rd minutes.
In the wake of the most recent triumph, Principal Beverley Wilson thinks this is another sign of the rebirth of the school and can only enhance the quest to restore the luster to the school’s name.
“This and the other successes in sports has really helped with discipline and boosted morale at the school” Principal Wilson told AgeNotes.
“Along with the Sixth Form, which we expect to get back in September 2007, this will be a great motivating factor for the students”
Excelsior is currently riding a wave of success in sports, particularly in football, and became the first school to simultaneously hold both the Boys’ and Girls’ football titles when it copped both championships two years ago.
The Xavier Gilbert-coached girls’ football team has reached at least the semi-finals every season in the last five years. |
