Proud dad Robert Young with his football-playing daughter
With the buzz of anticipation of this saturday's Xmas Bash swirling in the air, the Florida alumni football team kicked off the festivities by copping a second place finish in a recent 7-a-side football tournament.
As the fluent team "rolled the ball," it also rolled back the clock as flashes of the old days of "gym ball" at XLCR High School was evident as the Mountain View alumni took the field last Sunday December 9.
The confident, determined and fierce XLCR warriors un-uniformly clad in varied colored jerseys at the start of the competition was a force to be reckoned with. The team started the game with only 6 "ballers" which included Robert Young's & Jasmine Gray-Young's teenage daughter (a very skilled player) and no bench for substitution, Our first victim was JC who we hastily trounced 1 - 0. This loss took the neatly dressed and uniformed Old Hope Road old boys by surprise.
By the second game, the XLCR team was ready again this time more organized. Late arrivals of other players increased our numbers and we now had a full complement with extras and a manager - the radio personality extraordinaire - Mike Aitcheson (the Cool one) who provided coordinated gears- full suit of green and yellow jerseys and shorts. The team took the field again and this time whipped the Knox boys, ending with a 1 - 0 win. Now the competition started to take notice of the Mountain View team. The trophy was within reach. continued
