Chris Gayle ('99) has been appointed captain of the West Indies cricket team for its impending end of year tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Gayle, who led the side in the side ODI tournament in England earlier this year has been named to replace incumbent Ramnaresh Sarwan who has been sideline through injury.
The hard hitting batsman becomes the second Excelsiorian in the last decade to lead the once prestigious West Indies team, following on the heels of Hon. Courtney Walsh ('81).
The new captain is one of the leading batsmen in the team and has represented the West Indies in test cricket on 65 occassions.
