Appeal For Assistance As Sixth Form is Restored
Wednesday April 11, 2007

Excelsiorians are being asked to lend assistance to their alma mater now that months of lobbying have ended in the reintroduction of the Sixth Form, starting in September 2007.

With the Sixth Form program now a virtual fait accompli, the focus now shifts to securing the material and financial support with an appeal for assistance from alumni at home and in the Diaspora.

Concerned Alumni of Excelsior, the lobby group which had spearheaded the Sixth Form Restoration Program, sends out the appeal amid a sense of elation which has been gripping the alumni community since news of the Sixth Form reintroduction first broke. A proposal with a detailed list of needs of the school has been circulated with a catalogue of the requested material.

The long anticipated decision to restore the Sixth Form followed a series of meetings between officials from the Ministry of Education and stakeholders at Excelsior, including the Principal, Teachers and the alumni lobby group, convened by Winsome Halliman.

A petition which was circulated during the 75th Anniversary Home coming celebrations, and signed by more than 2,000 alumni, breathed new life into an idea which had been dormant for years.

More than thirty years have elapsed since Excelsior’s Sixth Form was absorbed as part of the Community College’s Pre-University Program.
