Just in time to coincide with her class’ 25th Anniversary commemoration, first-time author Cavell Spence-Samuels ('83) has just published Pirated, her first novel..
Pirated is a tale of intrigue, romance, subterfuge and secrets and traces the life of protagonist, Rusty, who had witnessed the murder of his parents when he was on the cusp of adolescence.
Debutant author Spence-Samuels first nurtured her craft at Excelsior where she was a frequent contributor to the school’s magazine. After completing her studies at University of Technology (UTECH), she relocated to South Florida . It was while living in Florida that she dusted off her skills as a writer-a craft that had laid dormant for years-and decided to pen her first published novel.
Classmate Karen Williams, a member of the executive board of the Excelsior Past Students' Association, was effusive in her praise for the new novelist.
.
‘This could not come at a better time than when we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. All of us salute her, especially those from form 11-2 and hope there will be many more opportunities to share in her work” she told AgeNotes.
Apart from Pirated, novelist Cavell Spence-Samuels is applying the final touches to four other publications, which she hopes to release by the end of 2008. She will, no doubt, also be embarking on a number of books signings and public appearances which will be tied to her class' 25th anniversary celebration.
